Peru is investing over $400million in the next year to improve tourist infrastructure and promote the area.

Sites include the Chan Chan complex from the Chimu culture and the tombs of Huaca de la Luna and Huaca de la Bruja near Trujilo. Near Chiclayo are gold-stuffed Museums of The Tombs and of The Lord of Sipan.

Many of these sites allow visitors to recreate the mysterious world of the Moche Culture, and the tombs have allowed archaeologists to unearth some of he most extensive collections of ancient artefacts found anywhere.

The Moche Route is already well visited by domestic tourists but the aim of the government's investiment is to make it the second most popular international tourist destination in Peru after Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
