  • (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2012 - MHA Lighting has been shortlisted for a highly acclaimed retrofit award, for its project using LED Lighting to help reduce infection rates at a hospital.

The Greater-Manchester-based company made the shortlist in this year's Retro Expo Awards, for installing revolutionary sealed lighting units at the North Devon Healthcare Trust (NDHT).

MHA's unique TiLite retrofit luminaire, which has been met with strong support from shadow health minister Andy Burnham MP, was designed as a fully sealed unit to stop dust, bacteria and dead insects from gathering around warm light fittings and spreading deadly superbugs.

The lighting, installed in wards, corridors and reception areas also helped NDHT to reduce carbon emissions by 354 tonnes and save 94,866 KW/H.

The Retro Expo Awards are run annually and recognise excellence in retrofit products, innovation, design and delivery across the domestic, commercial and public sector markets. The 'Public Building Retrofit Project of the Year' award specifically recognises the best retrofit of a publicly owned building, as voted by an independent panel of 14 industry experts.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 31 October 2012, at The NEC in Birmingham.

Tom Harrison, Managing Director of MHA Lighting, said: "To be shortlisted in this year's Retro Expo Awards comes as great news to MHA's talented team lighting experts, who worked painstakingly with North Devon District Hospital to future proof their existing building against infection control, whilst delivering significant energy savings."

Tom added: "The quality of entries this year was outstanding, so to be shortlisted from over 100 entries is a fantastic achievement. I wish all the shortlisted entries the best of luck and look forward to hearing about their first-class retrofit projects at the awards ceremony."
