  • Boulder, CO (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2013 - Mercury Payment Systems announced today the company donated $250,000 to 33 Colorado nonprofits through their community outreach program, MercuryGives.

Since 2011, MercuryGives has upheld its mission to assist and participate in Colorado communities by supporting nonprofit organizations, totaling $650,000 in monetary donations and more than 14,000 volunteer hours since the program began. The program focuses on organizations in the areas of health and human services, education, arts and culture, environment and animal welfare. MercuryGives received more than $350,000 in donation requests since January.

"Of all the great things we do at our company, MercuryGives is the program of which I'm most proud and is closest to my heart," said Matt Taylor, CEO of Mercury. "We're glad to see so many nonprofits that want to be affiliated with Mercury and we're proud to support vital community organizations."

The Brent Eley Foundation, one of many nonprofits supported by MercuryGives this year, created "Brent's Place," the only housing facility for immune-compromised patients and their families approved as "Safe-Clean" by Children's Hospital Colorado. Mercury began supporting Brent's Place after two staff members needed Brent's Place services while a family member underwent cancer treatment.

"I know that I can speak for all of the staff and families at Brent's Place when I say that we are truly humbled by the support that we have received from Mercury and their employees. It is extremely rare to find a corporate partner whose dedication to our cause runs through the entire organization and manifests itself in so many ways," said Sean Meyerhoffer, executive director of the Brent Eley Foundation. "The staff and management at Mercury continue to find new ways to embrace our organization and provide respite for our families. Despite providing financial support at a level that places them atop our list of Foundation Level Sponsors or coming to Brent's Place to regularly cook and serve a meal for our families, there always seems to be a desire to do more."

Over the last year, MercuryGives donations paid for more than 150 nights of housing for Brent's Place families and Mercury staff served more than 100 volunteer hours.

In addition to monetary donations, Mercury encourages their employees to take paid time off from work to volunteer. Mercury provides each employee 20 paid hours per year to volunteer.

Other 2013 MercuryGives donation highlights include:
    • The Chanda Plan Foundation
    • March of Dimes
    • Fort Lewis College Engineers Without Borders
    • Durango Arts Center
    • Habitat for Humanity in both Denver and La Plata counties
    • Second Wind Fund - Four Corners and Denver chapters
