  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2015 - There are nearly 30,000 foster youth living in Los Angeles County - and this year alone 2,400 young adults will have to leave the support of the foster care system forever. At the age of 21, their cases will be "terminated," and many times when they are released into the community they have minimal life skills, no financial support and no identity for the lack of birth certificates and social security cards. This leaves them vulnerable and they become victims by committing theft, prostitution and selling drugs for survival.

Living Advantage, through continued collaboration with the University of Southern California and Verizon, has implemented the Earn and Learn Program, which provides 20 hours of paid career training, and 100 hours of paid work experience for over 300 youth and young adults in the SPA 6 district of Los Angeles, So Central LA. Training is comprised of life and career skills services such as mock interviews and workplace etiquette tips; work experience is provided with the option of permanent placement. These skills and experience are essential to preparing youth which include our targeted population; foster youth for transitioning out of the foster care system, by building economic and social stability and wellness.

Living Advantage's partnerships with University of Southern California and Verizon span over seven years.
