Leading Businesses Greening Supply Chains and Institutionalizing Sustainability
New report points to maturing of environmental sustainability concerns and practices in the United States and identifies business practitioners' top six priorities.

The new report distills peer-to-peer discussions among corporate and institutional leaders across the U.S. about environmental issues.
Among the discussion outcomes summarized in the report are the top six priorities of sustainability practitioners in 2010. For example, eight out of nine meetings participants elected to have breakout sessions on how large organizations are making their supply chains more green. AltaTerra produced the report based on a series of meetings in cities across the United States called the Green Innovation in Business Network 2010 Solutions Labs. Green Innovation in Business Network (GIBN) Solutions Labs encourage knowledge sharing and network building to support people addressing sustainable business challenges in the United States. Solutions Labs are one-day, discussion-oriented events for which participants help determine the agenda. The nine 2010 Solutions Labs provided an opportunity for more than 700 participants from over 300 business, academic, governmental, and nonprofit organizations to explore ways to make their organizations more sustainable and their work more effective. Among the organizers were Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Dig In (as lead facilitator), and Ashoka.
"Solutions Labs provide an incredible opportunity for business practitioners at all levels across the country to share their challenges, successes, and questions about sustainability," said Dave Witzel, director of the EDF Innovation Exchange and EDF's main organizer of the Solutions Labs. "Our hope is that this summary report helps grow the power and scale of business-to-business learnings around environmental innovation."
The report includes regional event analyses, perspectives from various industry and academic practitioners, and summary themes of sustainable business topics from across the nine Solutions Labs events.
