  • (1888PressRelease) January 28, 2011 - Some 20 SUP (Stand up paddling board) surfers will paddle at the Dead Sea for the first time this coming Saturday.
The new sport will be launched this Friday (Jan 28 2011) at Ein Gedi spa, and the paddlers will be surfing at the Dead Sea mineral beach on Saturday (Jan 29 2011).

"The Dead Sea is a perfect location for paddling board - it has quiet water and a breathtaking view, and allows us to connect to nature in a calmer, greener and different way" Said Israeli medalist and 4 times surfing world champion Amit Inbar, who is also the leader of SUP - the new sport in Israel.

The Group will vote for the Dead Sea as New7Wonders campaign, and will be escorted by media from around the world.

"Stand up paddling in the Dead Sea is technically different than in water with less salt consistency." Explains Dror Sinai - Megillot Dead Sea regional council operations officer - "The water's heaviness and oiliness requires special practice".
The Group will arrive at Ein Gedi shore on Friday, Jan. 28 2011 11 AM, and will paddle-surf at Mieral beach on Saturday, Jan. 29 10 AM.
