International Tango sensation comes to South Florida and New York

  • (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2012 - The sensuous pleasure of tango ignites the stage with Tango Lovers (Enamorados del Tango): Tango, Passion and Sensuality on Friday, August 17 at 9 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center of the Performing Arts and on Saturday, August 18 at 9 p.m. in the Jeanne Rimsky Theater at Landmark on Main Street.

    Following its acclaimed premieres in Montevideo, Uruguay and New York City, the dance sensation returns to the United States with performances at the Broward Center and in New York.

    The show's dancers convey an array of emotions through their art by taking the audience through the evolution of the passionate dance. They will perform to music by celebrated tango composers Gerardo Matos Rodriguez, Angel Villoldo and Astor Piazzola among others.

    The performance features Mora Godoy, the renowned tango dancer from Rio de la Plata who has performed in the the celebrated productions Chantecler Tango and Tanguera, as well as an ensemble comprised of multiple Grammy ® Award winning musicians and world tango champions. Among them, the show's musical director and six time Grammy winner Federico Britos; Artistic Director Marcos Ayala, a world tango champion in Japan; Uruguayan singer Alfredo Lerida who is the show's general director and producer and a group of extraordinary artists with vast international paths for an unforgettable night.

    "Tango has been spread all over the world and has no borders, it enchants people from all nationalities," says Lerida, who continuously works to create global awareness about the art and culture of Rio de la Plata while integrating other Latin American cultures. "Tango's cultural importance has been recognized and it is featured on UNESCO World's Cultural Heritage list."

    Tango Lovers shares and promotes the culture of Rio de la Plata, the birthplace of tango. The event is presented by AeroMexico, Gol TV and Canal Sur.
