  • Richmond-Petersburg, VA (1888PressRelease) November 04, 2010 - Intelagrid, LLC, the emerging leader in broadband standards-based smart grid and smart home products, today announced that it has joined the ZigBee® Alliance. The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked, monitoring and control products based on an open global standard. The ZigBee Alliance standardized its ZigBee specification on top of the Physical (PHY) and Medium Access Control (MAC) layers of the IEEE 802.15.4 global standard; adding the application profile layers, security and network layers to create ZigBee.

In 2009, ZigBee Smart Energy™ was included by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the initial list of standards for the Smart Grid roadmap. The ZigBee Alliance recently announced its plans for ZigBee Smart Energy 2.0, which will provide an IP-based energy management solution and will allow for improved inter-operability on ZigBee networks.

"Intelagrid has supported standards in all of its products from the founding of the company, and we are very pleased with the direction the ZigBee Alliance has taken the standard." Said John Espey, COO of Intelagrid. "Our unique vision for the smart grid requires plug and play capabilities that are independent of any one proprietary communication link and support real time communications, and ZigBee and the Smart Energy Profile are proven technologies that fit this bill."
