  • (1888PressRelease) March 22, 2011 - The Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad, one of India's premier B-schools hosted the convocation ceremony for the batch of 2009-2011 at its Raj Nagar campus in Ghaziabad. Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Government of India, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion delivered the convocation address.

IMT Ghaziabad's Annual Convocation 2011 was a proud and rewarding moment which celebrated the successful academic accomplishments and outstanding placements of the year with the patrons of IMT, the pioneers of management education and the business world. In keeping with IMT's 31-year-old tradition of enriching the field of management, 407 students from the two-year full-time PGDM programme - 36 from the part-time programme and 59 students from the executive PGDM programme - received their graduate degrees at the convocation.

Speaking on the occasion, Nandan Nilekani said that he had interacted with many IMTians in the corporate world and had come away impressed with the talent, diligence and enthusiasm displayed by them. He said that the times were changing rapidly thanks to globalization, growing technology and a rebalancing of power, among other factors, and it was becoming apparent that only those who are confident, comfortable and adaptable to change will taste success. Sharing some of that keen insight he is known for, Nilekani said that the mantra for successful managers is simple - "Innovate and always think out-of-the-box."

To do this, Nilekani emphasised that managers should develop the ability to come out of their comfort zones and enter unchartered territories without forgetting good ethics and the values of management. Offering examples from the Government of India's UID project, Nilekani said that to meet their multiple project objectives, his team devised innovative solutions and coalitions to not only successfully handle a project of this magnitude but to also create a win-win situation for the various stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Urban Development, Government of India and President, Board of Governors, Institute of Management Technology, said that what is unique about the quality of education that IMT offers is that while it is grounded in reality, it also inspires students to reach for the stars. He said that management technology inspires innovation and is change-responsive rather than change-reactive. Hailing Nandan Nilekani as a role model for the youth, Kamal Nath said that he appreciated that he understood the realities of society in spite of coming from the glamorous corporate world. Inspiring students to take the real world of management head on, Kamal Nath said that good managers are active change sponsors who effectively communicate the need for change to their team, and thereby build a coalition of support.

Also offering words of motivation to the students, Dr. Bibek Banerjee, Director, IMT Ghaziabad and Academic Mentor, IMT, said, "Every great dream begins with a dreamer." While instilling confidence in them to go ahead and make a great start in their professional life, Dr. Banerjee said that one should always count upon one's inner strength and patience to reach the pinnacle of success. He added that while a dynamic yet challenging path awaits them, they also need to be aware of their responsibilities towards society.

Dr. Banerjee also reiterated that IMT's motto is to promote excellence in academic research, a global linkage and a dynamic industry interface. Building on the Entrepreneur Cell which was launched in 2008, he formally inaugurated the 'Incubation Centre Ghaziabad', which will form the core of entrepreneurship activities and act as the nursery for student ventures in the future.

The Convocation 2011 was also a happy occasion for the students of the batch of 2011 who had completed their management programmes successfully. Gold medalist PGDM Marketing, Deepika Jindal said she feels really special after having completed the programme which is such a great value addition to her personality. Praising the dedication of the faculty towards the students, Deepika said that they played a huge role in her earning a successful and rewarding campus placement.
