  • (1888PressRelease) June 13, 2011 - A Hinduism Summit (Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha) will be held in the Cultural Hall of Durga Temple of Virginia on Saturday, 18th June 2011 (Jyeshth Krushna Trutiya, Kaliyug year 5113 as per the Hindu calendar). This unique event will commence with Vedic recitations, lighting of an auspicious oil lamp and blowing of a conch in the tradition of Hinduism. The Hinduism Summit will be organized by non-profit Hindu organizations, Durga Temple of Virginia and Forum for Hindu Awakening.

The Hinduism Summit will feature insightful presentations aimed at creating an understanding about Hinduism concepts, like the 'hierarchy from the unmanifest Supreme God to the manifest God, Incarnations and Deities,' and issues faced by Hindus, like denigration and genocide. It will highlight Hinduism's practical solutions like the simple Agnihotra sacrificial fire for current problems like nuclear fallouts.

Hinduism is often misunderstood in the West. The presentations will help dispel misconceptions surrounding various concepts, such as ritualistic worship protocols, Deities, spiritual class (varna) system and status of women in Hinduism. The exhibition of posters and books at the Hinduism Summit will showcase Hindu spirituality and the unique spiritual science underlying Hindu concepts.

The Hinduism Summit will provide attendees ample opportunity to discuss their questions on Hindu spirituality with the presenters. Recent Hinduism Summits have answered a myriad of questions from the attendees. For example, 'What does it mean to be Hindu; can someone not born in Hinduism become a Hindu?' 'When I tried to reason with an artist depicting Hindu Deities nude, she refused to take down the painting, citing 'freedom of expression,' how to stop such denigration of our Deities?' 'Is there some significance to the substances offered in ritualistic worship or can we offer something as per our wish?' 'I prefer mental spiritual practices like chanting or meditation; do I have to perform ritualistic worship?' 'My child does not have proper vegetarian options in the school cafeteria; how can we change this?' 'What is the significance of the red dot worn by Hindu women?' 'I find it difficult to leave the non-vegetarian diet; can I still chant or visit the temple?' 'Why is Lord Ganesh worshipped first among all Hindu Deities?' etc.

The Hinduism Summit welcomes everyone interested in understanding, living or preserving Hinduism.
