IDSA exists to protect and promote the direct selling industry by educating policymakers, the business community and the general public about the nature of the industry and how it works; and ensuring IDSA member companies behave ethically in all aspects of their businesses through enforcement of the IDSA Code of Ethics.

Ajay Khanna, Country Head, Herbalife India shared critical aspects of Herbalife's business approach, which emphasized its core strategy of systematized training for its independent distributors. Herbalife's products are sold exclusively to end customers through Herbalife independent distributors in India, in accordance with strict local laws and regulations. The company offers extensive tools and training for distributors in product and nutrition education as well as personal and business development, ethics and branding.

Addressing the media, Ajay Khanna, Country Head, Herbalife India said, "Herbalife emphasizes the personal and business development of our growing pool of independent distributors in India and has invested in training forums, which we organize throughout the year in various states in India. These events are key platforms for Herbalife to arm our distributors with training in our products, business and marketing strategies, and most importantly on ethics. They are trained by our experts at the Nutrition Advisory Board in areas of nutrition and health. The events also serve as forums for exchanging success stories and contribute to building an overall business model for them to succeed in their business. As we grow, we are also making a special effort to create opportunities for women so that they can earn extra income and support their families,"

"Another area of emphasize for us is on the ethics of conducting business as our business model depends on trust and transparency when our independent distributors make personal connections with consumers as they demonstrate and explain the Herbalife product benefits and business opportunities. We have a Distributor ethics and compliance department and we strive to ensure that our entire independent distributor base is aware of our stringent code of ethics through constant communications and training." he further added.

While addressing the Knowledge Forum, Ms Chavi Hemanth, Secretary General, IDSA said, "IDSA enhance lives by sharing and protecting the Direct Selling opportunity for personal, professional and financial development. We encourage and maintain an environment where members can operate independently, ethically and progressively, where direct selling is regarded with merit by the entire community. We are constantly advocating State and Central level Ministries to frame Guidelines for the direct selling sector that would further harness the true potential of the sector." She further added, "I am sure that government will certainly provide strict guidelines to protect direct selling distributors and consumers as well."

She said "This industry works on ethics, trust and team work which provides self employment, women empowerment and entrepreneurship. We make sure that our Member Companies abide by code of ethics laid by IDSA which clearly emphasis on money back guarantee, return policy and cooling off period. She stressed "Our member companies and genuine direct selling companies do direct selling business on the basis of product sale which demarcates them from fraudulent schemes."
