  • (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2011 - Mediatec's Helsinki facility provides HD encoding and playout services for a news, current affairs and entertainment channel, and a separate movie channel operated by one of Finland's leading private commercial broadcasters. Selenio will significantly reduce maintenance requirements and minimize rack-space requirements within master control.

"This is the initial phase of our investment plans for video headend solutions within Mediatec operations that move toward a consolidated approach," said Andreas Langell, manager, contribution and distribution services at Mediatec Broadcast Sweden. "Currently, we have a range of different encoding and playout solutions to support eight additional sports pay-per-view channels in Scandinavia. We hope to eventually use Selenio as the common platform for all encoding and playout requirements across our network."

Selenio, capable of supporting IP and baseband signals, utilizes an ultra-compact, energy-efficient 3RU modular chassis with 14 hot-swappable slots that is useful for combining multiple workflow functions in a broadcast or new media environment. In a mission-critical national VHE environment, Selenio is ideal for combining specialized cards for encoders, multiplexers, DVB-T2 adaptation and embedded control and supervision.

Mediatec will also install a Harris(r) Videotek(r) VTM4140™ SD/HD onscreen monitor, featuring an eye-pattern-capable video input module and an advanced audio analysis option to provide quality control (QC) assurance of the encoded HDTV signals. Swedish systems integrator DiViTec Digital Video Technology will supply all equipment.

Based on the proven, cost-effective technology of the Videotek VTM Series, the VTM4140 is an easy-to-operate tool for monitoring and measuring HD and SD signals on any XGA-capable DVI monitor. The output display includes video picture, waveform, vector and alarm status or optional audio - each in one quadrant of the screen or any element in a full-screen view.

In broadcast communications, Harris offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
