  • (1888PressRelease) June 14, 2011 - According to the March of Dimes, one in eight babies is born too soon, and in Colorado the premature birth rate is even higher than the national average at 11.4 percent . Golfing for Babies is one way Coloradoans can help moms have healthy pregnancies and give babies a healthy start.

Golfing for Babies, a benefit for the March of Dimes, is being held on Tuesday, June 21 at the Ranch Country Club in Westminster. In addition to golf, the event includes breakfast, a silent auction, a chance to win drawing and lunch for $150 per person. The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m.

This year's Golfing for Babies event is being presented by Mercury Payment Systems, one of the fastest-growing payment processing companies in North America.

"Giving back to our community through our MercuryGives outreach program is part of our corporate culture and responsibility," said Carrie Betts, Director of Human Resources, Mercury Payment Systems. "But our decision to support Golfing for Babies was more personal. By supporting this great event we can contribute to changes that will improve the health of moms and their babies."

In 2003, the Brady family experienced the loss of their daughter, McKenna, at 22.5 weeks. To help fight for healthy babies and to honor their daughter, the Brady family, along with another family that had also lost a child, created a charity event to raise money for the March of Dimes. To date, their golf tournaments have donated approximately $100,000 to the March of Dimes.

"The growing support for Golfing for Babies year after year continues to overwhelm us," said Jeremy Brady. "This event not only celebrates our daughter's spirit but it reminds us that we are not alone and that there is a vast community fighting for McKenna and for the thousands of other babies whose lives are lost much too soon."
