German Creates A Beer Tent As Alternative Accommodation For Oktoberfest

Top Quote The Germans go crazy for Oktoberfest, which is why finding accommodation during the festival period is always particularly difficult. This year, a Munich local  had an ingenious idea to cash in on the influx of tourists: he has built an "Oktobertent" in his backyard made of 504 beer bottles, and is renting it out for $156 / night on the accommodation platform www.wimdu.com. • (1888PressRelease) September 22, 2012 - For anyone else, October has plenty to offer but for Germans it means just one thing - Oktoberfest.

With over 6 million guests expected to attend Oktoberfest (sept. 22 to okt. 7) this year and hotel prices seeing an increase of 850%* during the festival period, finding a suitable and affordable place to stay will be a priority for many guests.

To cash in on Oktoberfest fever, one Wimdu host has come up with an interesting hotel alternative.

Stefan Schmidt, of Munich, has created the 'Oktobertent' - made from over 500 beer bottles, the two-person tent has two sleeping bags, a flashlight and guests are provided with slippers. Access to Stefan's bathroom is also provided during the stay.

Stefan created the beer tent after discussing the idea with his friends. "We'd all wondered what it would be like to sleep in one of the Oktoberfest beer tents, but it's just not possible, so I decided to create my own beer tent in my garden" the Wimdu host explains.

He added, "Renting out the tent on Wimdu is a great way to get additional income but more importantly, it's a nice way to meet new people. I know I'll certainly be having a couple of beers with my guests!"

The tent's location is unbeatable at just 10 minutes away from the Oktoberfest grounds - perfect for stumbling home after a long day of sampling German beers.

Founder and Wimdu CEO Arne Bleckwenn states: "The idea is great. Nowhere else can you experience the intense feeling of Oktoberfest as much as here. Through Wimdu, not only can you experience the real Munich but you can have a unique stay like no other."

One night's stay in the Oktobertent is $156 and available to rent on Wimdu.com https://www.wimdu.com/offers/5BJ5QW84
