Sealed copies resurface on resale marketplaces priced well above original retail. For a board game built entirely around a motorcycle club fighting over turf, the physical game itself has become the hardest thing to find a piece of.
That gap is the reason CRIME Digital, a two person indie studio founded by Zach Forbes and Greg Nagel, built Sin of Angels: Hell City, also called the SOA game. It is a browser board game in the fullest sense: the whole game runs inside a web browser, with nothing to install on any device. Players sign in with a Google account, which makes it simple to play board games online or start a board game with friends without a shopping trip, a resale listing, or a missing piece standing in the way.
Sin of Angels: Hell City is a turn based strategy board game for two to six players, each commanding an outlaw motorcycle club fighting for control of Los Angeles, with any mix of humans and AI filling those seats. Each round, clubs spend Orders, the resource that limits everything else, to recruit Members and Recruits, move onto Sites across the city, and work those Sites for Cash, Guns and Narcotics, while trading on the Silk Road and managing the Felonies that operation attracts. The game runs six rounds, and whichever club holds the most Cash when the last one ends wins. Territory matters because it earns cash over time, not because holding ground is a win condition on its own, and ties, along with turn order each round, are decided by the Envelope.
The digital format opens up options a shelf copy never had. Sin of Angels: Hell City can be played solo against AI clubs, in online multiplayer across separate devices, in local pass and play on one screen, or in Party Mode, where the 3D board renders on a television while each player acts privately from their own phone. That last mode has no real equivalent on a tabletop: a physical board game has no second, private screen for a player to step away to.
"We kept hearing from people who went looking for a copy of the old Sons of Anarchy board game and came back with nothing, or a listing priced well above what it used to sell for," said Zach Forbes, co-founder of CRIME Digital. "We built Sin of Angels: Hell City so anyone who wants that kind of game, clubs, territory, cash, guns, all of it, can open a browser and play tonight instead of tracking down a copy that might not exist anymore."
Sin of Angels: Hell City is currently in closed beta, open to new testers now and free to join. Seats are requested through one form at https://soa-game.com. After the beta period ends, the game moves to a paid release, with a single purchase planned to cover browser, Steam and Android together.
