Functional Medicine Roundtable Launches
The Academy of Functional Medicine is launching a new service that is being introduced as the 'Roundtable'. This series is dedicated to those practitioners who may or may not have formal training on Functional Medicine, but still desire help on their most complex cases. Specifically, the series is broken down into weekly one-hour sessions.
- (1888PressRelease) August 26, 2011 - The Academy of Functional Medicine, Dentistry & Psychology, LLC, will be introducing a new line-up of educational services beginning this fall. This comes as a result of the Academy's drive to continually meet the needs of the Functional Medicine client. According to the Academy's Director of Operations, Donna Gullato, the Academy's staff stays very close to their constituency, and devises the most current educational products on Functional Medicine based on their customers feedback.
The first new service to be introduced will be their' Roundtable' series. This series is dedicated to those practitioners who may or may not have formal training on Functional Medicine, but still desire help on their most complex cases. Specifically, the series is broken down into weekly one-hour sessions where practitioners may obtain expert just-in-time mentoring on their most challenging cases. Gullato adds that this is a vehicle for practitioners to have their most immediate needs met by having one of the Academy's expert facilitators provide guidance to their toughest of cases.
The structure of the series utilizes a discussion format where participants are invited to bring their difficult case(s). Upon discussion with their Roundtable colleagues, the facilitator will then provide instantaneous advice on how to resolve the case. The major benefit of these sessions is that it eliminates the guesswork on how to interpret complicated lab test results. Through discussion with their Functional Medicine counterparts, it also mitigates the need to re-invent the wheel.
Participants also have the option to just drop-in and listen to learn more on how to get to the root cause of a patient's symptoms, and/or how to better interpret lab test results.
The Roundtable sessions are scheduled to meet every Wednesday evening from 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST. The series uses a webinar-based format and will begin on August 31st.

These sessions will be kicked off by Dr. Patrick Flynn, founder of Gear-Up and the Wellness Way, and Dr. Michael Gruttadauria, founder of the Long Island Spectrum Center. Both practitioners are renowned Functional Medicine speakers, and both serve on the Academy's Advisory Board, as well. Gruttadauria additionally heads the Academy's steering committee and has been very instrumental in shaping the Academy's new genre of services.
Drs. Flynn and Gruttadauria will be featuring their own cases at the Roundtable, and the line-up for the first few weeks is as follows:
August 31 - Dr. Flynn - GI Tract
September 7 - Dr. Flynn - Female Hormones
September 14 - Dr. Gruttadauria - Autism
