  • (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2011 - Glen Burnie, Maryland - My Girlfriend's House, Inc., started as a group of busy professional women who wanted to make new friends, enjoy a social life and network with women who share similar interests. Along the way, they discovered a higher purpose.

"As much as we enjoyed making new friends, we soon realized that we were all in a position to give back," said Veronica Eyenga, the group's founder and president of a marketing and accounting consulting firm that works with government contractors. "Many of us decided we wanted to help young women, just as so many people have helped us."

The group, now numbering over 50 members, will launch its new website today at www.mygirlfriendshouse.org, and has filed for nonprofit status. "Socializing is still an important part of the group," Eyenga noted. "But so is helping young women in the metropolitan D.C. area."

Through the site, visitors can learn more about the organization and its charitable outreach, and members can keep up-to-date with events and community programs and interact with each other on a daily basis.

    Purses and Purposes

The group's signature event is called Purse Strings for My Girlfriends, where members give young girls designer purses filled with the necessities. Working with local groups that serve disadvantaged girls and young women, My Girlfriend's House volunteers identify deserving groups of girls. "Some of these girls have never had anything nice to call their own," Eyenga noted. "We take them out to brunch, give them purses and mentor them about the adult world and the business world." In addition, the group is building programs to supply clothing, school supplies and other necessities, and scholarships and internship opportunities to older teens.

"We still have brunch, go shopping, organize game nights and do all of the things that girlfriends do," noted Eyenga. "But we give back as well, and we're hoping women throughout the area will visit our new website and become part of the group.

"We're also hoping that community members and groups will support us and partner with us. With their help, we can continue to positively impact the young ladies that we sponsor, which is the ultimate goal of My Girlfriend's House."
