  • St. Louis, MO-IL (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2015 - Fontbonne University has named Karen Gedera to its Board of Trustees. Gedera is an alumna and long-time supporter of the university.

"Karen has become a devoted and enthusiastic ambassador for Fontbonne," said Dr. J. Michael Pressimone, Fontbonne's president. "Her proven dedication to the university and her ability to engage the community in our mission are qualities that will bring strength to an already robust leadership team."

Gedera graduated from Fontbonne in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and holds an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. Upon her Fontbonne graduation, she began a successful career at McDonnell Douglas holding increasingly more responsible leadership positions in both information technology and total quality management. As the Director of Quality, she participated in the transition team that led the integration of the company with Boeing. After her retirement in 1999, she established Gedera Consulting and continues to work as a consultant.

Gedera is heavily involved at Fontbonne. She is a charter member of the Fontbonne Community Connection, a giving circle comprising alumnae and friends of the university. In 2007, she was appointed to Fontbonne's Council of Regents, a committee that builds relationships between Fontbonne and St. Louis businesses and community organizations. She will continue her work with the council while also serving on the board.

"We all know that education is an investment in the future," Gedera said. "I benefitted from the investment of others, and I feel it is my obligation to continue to maintain this investment for others to get the same benefit I did."

Fontbonne University is a Catholic coeducational institution of higher education offering liberal arts and professional programs, as well as evening and online formats for adult learners.
