  • Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill, NC-SC (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2011 - FastMed Urgent Care will be partnering with A Child's Place (ACP) and hosting a donations drive Saturday, December 17. All day FastMed will be accepting new school supplies, new clothes and shared donations to aide homeless children of Charlotte.

ACP's mission is to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education. Because of the unstable living conditions homeless children face, they are hungry twice as often as other children, sick more often and are on average two to three grade levels behind.

Items that the ACP especially needs are toddler to adult sized new underwear, new socks and public school uniforms. Public school uniforms consist of khaki pants and skirts and white collared shirts.

"Public school uniforms are so important because some schools absolutely require students to wear them," said Laurie Schwartz, Development Director at A Child's Place. "Students who arrive out of uniform at those schools get sent home for the day and have to miss class. That's especially hard on homeless students who may not have a safe place to go."

    Donations Drive Details:
Location: FastMed Urgent Care of Concord, 391 George Lyles Parkway
    Date: Saturday, December 17
    Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"Helping to provide these children with what they need in school will give them a happier and healthier lifestyle," said Gary Uremovich, Practice Manager at Fastmed of Concord. "This is our first year partnering with A Child's Place, and we're thrilled to contribute and make an impact."
