  • (1888PressRelease) March 22, 2012 - Los Angeles, California - After a myriad of positive reviews in the blogosphere for the educational iPad app Elfishki and the Giant Cake, its creators, Elka Palka Production, LLC, launched a new interactive fairy tale story, Elfishki and the Unwelcome Guest. Elfishki are little fairy tale creatures who live on the beautiful Rainbow Island in the middle of the Sparkling Sea. They can fly like butterflies or swim like mermaids.

Inspired by the idea to use the full potential of Apple's iPad to educate and, above all, to cultivate the love of reading in elementary school children, a group of enthusiasts from all over the world decided to contribute their efforts and create a new type of teaching aid which would be as beautiful as classical cartoons, as engaging as beloved fairy tales, as fun as videogames, and as useful as textbooks. That is how the Elfishki series was born.

The Unwelcome Guest application, the second book in the Elfishki series, features stunning interactive illustrations, original music, and professional voiceovers in both English and Russian. There is also a bonus game at the end of the book designed to develop attention to detail and visual acuity in young children.

All Elfishki books have a special feature - there are no bad characters in the stories. Children learn to appreciate the differences in the points of view of the characters and figure out ways to come up with win-win solutions. In The Unwelcome Guest, an ice-cream seller named Vince and his friend, a dragon named Brungildo, have to deal with a tiny blue person who chooses to live in their garage padlock and is not about to leave or let them into the garage. Is he a bad guy or does he have a reason for his actions? And what would Vince and Brungildo have to do about this situation?

On every page of the book, little readers can find comprehension questions, which help them develop their conscious reading skills - according to the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

"Once I saw all the comprehension questions and what a wide range of questions are asked, I was hooked. This is a great way for students to practice 'Listen to Reading' during my Daily 5 literacy block." Nicole Heinlein, a 3rd grade teacher said about the first Elfishki book in the series.

All Elfishki books are published in English and Russian (Spanish is currently in development).
