  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - The Dow Chemical Company & OPX Biotechnologies will give a Joint Presentation entitled "Bio Acrylic Acid Commercialization Progress and Challenges" at the 3rd Biobased Chemicals: Commercialization & Partnering Conference on Sep 13-14, 2012 in San Francisco, CA.

In March 2011, The Dow Chemical Company and OPX Biotechnologies, Inc. (OPXBIO) signed a joint development agreement to prove the technical and economic viability of an industrial-scale process to produce acrylic acid using a fermentable sugar (such as corn and/or cane sugar) feedstock with equal performance qualities as petroleum-based acrylic acid, creating a renewable bio-acrylic option for the market. The global petroleum-based acrylic acid market is $8 billion and growing 3 to 4 percent per year. Acrylic acid is a key chemical building block used in a wide range of consumer goods including paints, adhesives, diapers and detergents. Since entering into their joint collaboration, Dow and OPXBIO have made significant progress on technology scale up and commercial development of the bio-acrylic acid process. This presentation will focus on the progress made and current state of commercialization of the technology including discussion on the unique challenges remaining.

Presenting at the 3rd Biobased Chemicals Conference will be top executive speakers from the following companies: Amyris, BASF, Bayer MaterialScience LLC., CBiRC, Ceres, Inc., Chemtex, Codexis, DSM, DSM Venturing, Flagship Ventures, Genomatica, Gevo, LanzaTech, LS 9, Lux Research, Myriant Corporation, OPX Biotechnologies, Proterro, Segetis, Solazyme, The Dow Chemical Company, USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Western Regional Research Center, USDA, Environmental Managment Division (EMD), Verdezyne, Virdia, Virent, ZeaChem and many more!
