  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) November 17, 2018 - Good news for the future of democracy: the open source software nonprofit Democracy.Earth is introducing censorship-resistant voting with the launch this week of its blockchain-based governance platform on the Rinkeby Ethereum testnet.

The highly anticipated release at testnet.democracy.earth was announced by founder Santiago Siri onstage during the C20 Bitcoin and Blockchain Conference held in Buenos Aires, Argentina earlier this week. “Our aim is to create a democracy for the digital age, that can serve organizations any size and operate in a borderless and permissionless way to address pressing global issues beyond nation-state territories," said Siri.

Democracy.Earth is providing infrastructure for "tamper-resistant democracy" that enables any citizen anywhere in the world to exercise the human right to vote and be heard, without interference or suppression. According to the foundation, communities with limited freedom of expression under repressive governments are poised to be the early beneficiaries of the platform's permissionless, censorship-resistant properties. "There is a lot of excitement around the potential for such a platform to provide citizens with a reliable means of governance that can transcend the control of a dictatorial regime," Siri said.

The Democracy Earth Sovereign software is the world's first global democracy platform. Users can place votes, delegate votes, and debate issues in a familiar social media-like interface that replaces "Likes" with voting using digital tokens. The platform is free to use for any participant anywhere in the world and requires no personal information to be divulged or stored; users sign up using the free MetaMask browser extension following a simple tutorial available at the foundation's website words.democracy.earth. Once signed up, voters will be able to cast ballots on the platform using any ERC20 token. The foundation plans to release its VOTE token and mainnet launch before the end of the year.
