  • (1888PressRelease) June 01, 2012 - The winners for each of the ten categories were announced at a gala dinner held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham during the Sign & Digital exhibition. Categories covered individual and multiple sign projects from companies employing one to nine members of staff and those with more than ten employees. Other categories included Vehicle Wrapping Project of the Year, Wide Format Print Project of the Year, The Green Award, Rising Star Award, Wide Format Printing Company of the Year and the Sign Company of the Year award.

The Grain Sign Company based in Cornwall won two awards; the first award was for the Multiple Sign Project of the Year (one to nine employees), which was undertaken for Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire; the second was the Green Award sponsored by DS Smith Recycling. Managing Director Sam Ratcliffe, commented, "We were very surprised, but delighted, to receive the two awards as the competition entries are always of a very high standard.”

While working with the Wiltshire theme park throughout 2011, the company used ArtCAM Insignia for nine of the signs for Longleat Safari Park within the entry. To create the signs, a mix of vinyl, dibond, acrylic, wood, PVC and metal was used across a range of locations throughout the Park.

The hosts of the Sign & Digital Awards commented, "The judges were Impressed with the professional creativity displayed throughout. The Grain Sign Company won the award for its sensitive yet bold interpretation of the brief, where it combined materials, visual effects and impact with finesse for a very beautiful and attention grabbing signage project.”

Since submitting the entry to the awards, the Grain Sign Company has continued to provide signage to Longleat Safari Park, including those for its new themed attraction, The Tropical Storm Café. This three-dimensional sign was created thanks to upgrading from ArtCAM Insignia up to the more advanced 3D modelling and CNC machining package, ArtCAM Pro.

Their second award was the "highly commended” Green award and recognised the craftsmanship used to create their sandblasted cedar-wood signs. In awarding second place, the judges were "impressed by The Grain Sign Company’s intelligent solutions to use green processes and sustainable materials for beautifully crafted, traditional signage.”

ArtCAM Insignia customer, Image Technique Ltd, based in Worcestershire, also did extremely well in the competition securing third place in the Multiple Sign Project of the Year (more than ten employees) category with their contract for Westfield Stratford City. Situated at the heart of the Olympic Park, this is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe at 1.9 million sq.ft.

After first being contracted to produce fourteen LED illuminated signs, eight non-illuminated logos and thirty large-scale signs for Westfield, all within a 12 week programme, the company was then asked to produce a further 30% more signage.
