CryptPad Spring release is live

This release also marks the beginning of a broader refactoring effort, aimed at making CryptPad faster, more modular, and easier to maintain and extend over time.
- (1888PressRelease) April 16, 2025 - We’ve just released CryptPad 2025.3.0, and while it doesn’t introduce major new apps, it includes important technical improvements, bug fixes, and usability tweaks, especially for users on mobile or with large drives.
This release also marks the beginning of a broader refactoring effort, aimed at making CryptPad faster, more modular, and easier to maintain and extend over time.
#1 Document and Presentation now open on cryptpad.fr
Many users have asked for Office-compatible document (DOCX/ODT) and presentation (PPTX/ODP) support.
Thanks to the work of Wolfgang Ginolas, these editors are available in beta on cryptpad.fr (even for free users) and make CryptPad a more complete alternative for secure online collaboration.
You can start a document or presentation on cryptpad.fr (no account required).
#2 Better performance, especially on mobile and large accounts
If you’ve ever waited a while for CryptPad to load, especially when working with a large drive or team folders, this release should make a noticeable difference.
We’ve restructured how pads and folders are loaded: instead of loading everything at once, CryptPad now prioritizes the document you’re opening, with other content loading in the background. This means:
Faster time to first interaction when opening a pad.
Less delay when accessing shared folders and team drives.
A more responsive experience overall on mobile devices
This work also sets the stage for future improvements, like a JavaScript API, which would allow third-party apps to connect more easily with CryptPad servers.
#3 Other improvements and fixes
This release also includes:
New admin tools: admins can now add or remove other admins via the interface
Touchscreen improvements in Kanban and Forms
Mobile tweaks across the UI (better layouts, preview mode for code, improved buttons)
Accessibility improvements, especially in the calendar and admin UI
Fixes for OnlyOffice file uploads and better error messages in several parts of the UI
Backend and memory usage improvements to help instances scale more efficiently
Security fixes. If you’re running a self-hosted CryptPad instance, we recommend upgrading as soon as possible.
For a full list of changes, check the release notes.
Please note: we had planned to upgrade the OnlyOffice editors to version 8 in this release, but are still working on integration issues. Since document upgrades can’t be reversed, we’ll hold off and include this change in 2025.3.1, once it’s stable.
Project stats
Here’s a quick snapshot of where CryptPad stands today:
Over 2 million pads opened per month on cryptpad.fr
About 200,000 users each month
55,000 users with personal drives
Over 1,000 subscribers supporting the project
More than 1,400 CryptPad instances in the wild
We’re grateful to the community that helps test, report bugs, support others, and sustain the project through donations and subscriptions.
You can also help make CryptPad financially sustainable. If you’re an individual user, you can make a donation via Open Collective or by subscribing to CryptPad.fr. Organizations can contribute through subscriptions or feature sponsorships. We’re fully transparent about our funding and publish annual updates on the CryptPad blog.
What’s next
We're continuing to improve performance, mobile support, and OnlyOffice integration. For the next major release (planned for summer 2025), we aim to bring more usability and quality-of-life improvements across the board.
As always, we’re working toward making CryptPad a solid, privacy-respecting alternative to mainstream office tools; something people can rely on without giving up control over their data.
Try it or host it yourself
CryptPad is free to use (no account required) at cryptpad.fr.
You can also host your own instance if you prefer to keep everything under your control.
Thanks for using and supporting CryptPad!
