Horowitz, Fourth Grade Teacher at Golda Meir School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Mark J. Horowitz's commitment to excellence in Education.

Horowitz, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is a certified teacher of all subjects, began teaching in 1968.

After spending one year as a VISTA volunteer after earning his psychology degree, Horowitz decided to enter the intern program at the educational department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He took education courses for six weeks, followed by an additional six weeks of student teaching before obtaining a teaching job at Keefe Avenue School in the Milwaukee Public School System.

Teaching fourth grade students, Horowitz covers all subjects. He is also in charge of the schools' annual trip to Denmark which is taken every spring for two weeks. Students are able to discover and develop respect for different cultures, religions, races, and backgrounds, and they have become much more mature, independent, and self-directed. In addition to studying about Denmark, they learn about the Netherlands, where they stop for a day on the way home. They learn about Dutch history and art, including Anne Frank and the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh.

"While working a full year for VISTA as a volunteer in Milwaukee with children and adults I mostly enjoyed working with the children," Horowitz said. "This is why I decided to become a teacher."
