  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2011 - Cloudsoft Corporation, a provider of cloud computing software and services that drive Intelligent Application Mobility, today announced the appointment of jclouds Founder Adrian Cole as its Chief Evangelist. In this newly created role, Cole will continue to champion jclouds as well as working with Cloudsoft, its clients and the broader open source community to cultivate and define best practices for next generation cloud platforms.

With almost two decades in IT services, Cole is a distinguished advocate of provisioning open, integrated IT architectures. Founder of the jclouds project, an open source library that helps developers get started in the cloud with portable APIs and tools supporting over 30 providers worldwide, Cole frequently engages financial services, hosting and ISP stakeholders to bolster the design and implementation of sophisticated virtualization, automation and cloud strategies. Recently, Cole has contributed to vCloud ecosystem engineering at VMware, Java integration at Opscode and is now helping to refine cloud portability strategies at Cloudsoft.

"I am a firm believer in Cloudsoft's philosophy of changing how organizations approach application mobility challenges through cloud interoperability. We saw this in action last year as Cloudsoft led Location design in jclouds. I look forward to working alongside the company's founders, engineering team and clients to improve current and future infrastructure deployments while continuing to foster innovation within the cloud computing and open source communities," said Adrian Cole, Chief Evangelist, Cloudsoft.

Cole regularly collaborates with cloud computing and devops communities on demystifying enterprise cloud solutions, using agile computing to enhance interoperability and tapping open source initiatives to invigorate and further the adoption of next-generation development strategies. You can find Cole next at VMworld Las Vegas, where jclouds will feature in Bluelock's case study How to Build a Cloud Infrastructure that's 100X Easier to Manage (#SPO3966, Monday August 29, 11:00 AM), next presenting jclouds instructional sessions at Javazone, Jax London and Devoxx 2011. Cole's recent contributions include work on the Apache Incubator project Whirr, which makes extensive use of jclouds under the covers, and participation in the devops-toolchain working group.

"We are thrilled to welcome an industry visionary of Adrian's caliber to Cloudsoft in the newly created role of Chief Evangelist," said Duncan Johnston-Watt, founder and CEO, Cloudsoft. "We have collaborated closely with Adrian over the past year and are absolutely committed to ensuring the continued success of jclouds. Our Monterey middleware platform leverages jclouds under the hood so we have firsthand knowledge of its immense potential. Adrian's involvement will be critical as we work closely with the open source community to build on this as platform-as-a-service takes center stage and enterprises get serious about using cloud without losing control."

    About jclouds
jclouds is an open source library that helps you get started in the cloud and reuse your java and clojure development skills. Our API allows you freedom to use portable abstractions or cloud-specific features. We test support of 30 cloud providers and cloud software stacks, including Amazon, GoGrid, Ninefold, vCloud, OpenStack, and Azure. We support many cloud providers including Amazon, GoGrid, Azure, vCloud, and Rackspace and currently provide two abstraction APIs: Compute and Blobstore.

    About Cloudsoft Corporation
Cloudsoft Corporation is a venture-backed software company dedicated to ensuring that enterprises can apply the benefits of cloud computing to the large-scale, distributed, transactional systems that underpin their business. Utilizing Intelligent Application Mobility, the foundation of Cloudsoft's Monterey platform, they can rapidly overcome roadblocks to cloud adoption and migrate their business critical workloads into the cloud. Currently Monterey supports both the Eclipse Classic and the SpringSource Tool Suite development environments. Monterey extends VMware's vFabric Cloud Application Platform, enabling the logical partitioning vFabric applications into discrete components and managing the dynamic deployment and migration of these components at runtime within and across clouds - private or public - with no disruption or interruption to service. It is the only solution that is geographically aware and automatically optimizes infrastructure utilization and governance based on policies.

The Monterey Developer Edition is available free of charge as either a download bundled with Eclipse Classic or as an Eclipse Plugin. This edition allows developers to build, run and manage Monterey applications or services in either a simulator or, using their own credentials, in public clouds such as Amazon EC2 or GoGrid.
