  • (1888PressRelease) June 01, 2016 - Delh : As per the report, India is going to employ 2.9 million flexi staff by 2018 thereby becoming the 3rd largest country to employ contract employees globally. Hon'ble Minister of Labour & Employment, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, was the guest of the honor at the occasion and unveiled the report.

With an acceleration rate of 12.3% over 2015-18, flexi-staffing is becoming the job creation engine where over nine million youth would be added to the organised workforce in the next 20 years. Most of the contribution to overall flexi staff would come from 11 states who will dominate the formal employment landscape with 2.4 Mn out of 2.9 Mn flexi staff in 2018 with Maharashtra topping the chart followed by Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu Delhi and Gujarat.

Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon'ble Minister of Labour & Employment, Government of India said, "We are happy to have partnered 49th Ciett World Employment Conference which is a magnificent platform for stakeholders of the staffing world. WEC has thrown valuable insights on some of global best practices. It showcased India as an emerging talent powerhouse before the global counterparts. In sync with the objective of the event, we are committed to consider the problems of the workers as well as the employers in a tripartite spirit and create harmonious working environment to facilitate employment creation for India's large pool of unemployed workforce."

Ms. Rituparna Chakraborty, President, ISF, said, "India is one of the very few countries which has the younger workforce with every month a million kids getting added to India's workforce and potentially to the world's workforce. Given that our last election was won solely on the manifesto of job creation and skill development - hence India is the right destination to host World Employment Conference 2016 and perhaps the right time to discuss about the best practices worldwide that can elevate staffing. WEC 2016 is the perfect platform to launch ISF Annual Report 2016 - A sectoral and State Analysis. It is an insightful research which talks about the 15 most lucrative sectors for staffing and how specifically 11 states are steaming ahead in employment generation."

Annemarie Muntz, President, Ciett said, "India has unlimited potential in terms of talents and skills which are key to a successful labour market in the global economy. However, structural challenges are holding India back to fulfil its full potential. Over complex regulation and bureaucracy need to be adjusted to the new era of employment. For this reason, it is essential to address the organised workforce, fighting informality and illegality. In this regard, up skilling of workers and education can contribute immensely to empower the country's labour market. I am confident that India can take the lead and play a key role in the global workforce and economy in order to enable jobs, security, growth and prosperity."

Organized flexi staffing players have made significant contribution towards social security as well as government revenues in the last few years. With every 1% conversion of informal workers to flexi, 1.5 million gain access to social security. A legal framework to protect the interest of this growing fraternity and many more ready to be tapped is the need of the hour.
