  • Nassau-Suffolk, NY (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2018 - Named in memory of the legendary educator, official, and coach Gaetano “Butch” Dellecave, the award is the product of a highly successful 18-year partnership between local school districts in Suffolk County and the award organizers: the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, the Butch Dellecave Foundation, and Newsday.

Athletic Directors from all sixty-six Suffolk County school districts are asked to nominate one male and one female from their high school senior class. Nominees must be students who are not only at the top of their game, but also score high in classroom performance and in their commitment to local community service.

Harriott made Varsity Track All-League and All-County for her junior and senior years. In soccer, aside from being Team Captain, she won the Suffolk Zone Award and was Varsity All-Conference, All-League, and All-County. Academically, she was in the National Honor Society since 10th grade. Harriott also volunteers for a myriad of charities including the American Lung Association and the Lupus Foundation.

Hobbes, who played Varsity football for three years, earned All-County honors and was a finalist for the prestigious Collatta Award bestowed to the best linebacker in the county. He is also a four-year letter recipient for the Boys Lacrosse Program. Hobbes gives back to the community through his volunteer work with Blue Star Mothers of America, various Veterans homes, Jeans for Troops, and is a youth group leader at St. James Church in Setauket.

In a rare coincidence, both Harriott and Hobbes will be heading to Harvard this fall.
