  • (1888PressRelease) April 09, 2011 - Town of the Blue Mountains, Ont. (April 8, 2011) - Continuing to build on its strong reputation as an equestrian centre that brings a new perspective to area tourism, Cedar Run Horse Park has unveiled an expanded 2011 season line-up that includes everything from community events to horse competitions to an action-packed rodeo weekend.

"We pride ourselves on being a multi-disciplinary event facility that offers numerous opportunities for people to come out and be a part of the action, whether as spectators, competitors or participants," said Cedar Run Director of Events and Marketing Nicole Paara. "We have a very strong season of competition ahead, featuring a high caliber line-up of events."

For starters, Cedar Run will be hosting its first-ever Equine Canada Gold-sanctioned Hunter Jumper Classic, running July 6-10. A prestigious national competition, the showcase is expected to become an annual event at the Park, giving spectators a taste of show jumping as competitors vie for over $65,000 in prize money.

Coinciding with the Showcase weekend is the inaugural Blue Mountains Chili Ribfest. Hosted by the Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary, the event features the 27th annual Chili Cook-Off and Smokin' for Gold National BBQ Championship, with 10 world-class teams of "ribbers" already signed up to compete for more than $8,000 in prize money across four categories - ribs, pork, chicken and brisket.

On June 25-26 and July 30-31, Cedar Run will once again host two Georgian Bay Hunter Jumper Trillium Shows. Also returning this year is the Cedar Run Horse Trials, an Ontario Horse Trials Association (OHTA) sanctioned event slated for August 7 that features Cross Country, Stadium Jumping and Dressage.

"We're very pleased to announce that Cedar Run is a contender for hosting the 2012 OHTA Championships," noted Paara. "We continue to build and develop our facilities here at Cedar Run so that we can host events and competitions at every level."

Rounding out the season is the Cedar Run Rodeo Weekend. Produced by the Rawhide Rodeo Company, the two-day event gets under way on August 27, providing a unique window into the past while at the same time offering a fully modern sporting event that includes bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding as modern day cowboys and cowgirls strut their stuff.

"A rodeo is a fun, exciting and original way to bring our community together," said Paara, noting rodeo competitors from four countries will be competing for up to $20,000 in prize money. "It will be another great festival weekend at Cedar Run that includes kids' activities, live entertainment and more."

The Riding School at Cedar Run will also be opening for its second season starting in May. Head Instructor Sherrie Lee Hawley offers lessons for riders of all ages and abilities. Hawley can design programs for both pleasure riders and those looking to develop the skills necessary to compete in riding events.

The complete 2011 event schedule and riding school information is available for online viewing at www.cedarrun.ca and will be updated regularly.
