  • (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2011 - Sahara India Pariwar has approached the famous film producer Boney Kapoor to give a boost to its media and entertainment business that includes television broadcasting and film production.

    Boney Kapoor has joined as the director of Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd (Somel) to enhance the business. "Mr.boney Kapoor, positioned as the head of the firm, will try to revitalize Sahara's broadcasting and movie businesses", said sources.

    Sahara One, Somel's flagship channel, despite producing some excellent TV serials, has not acquired a very nice place in the Hindi general entertainment channel space. Movie channel Filmy and Firangi also require regular monitoring for earning more TRPs. Somel has been without a chief executive officer since the exit of Avinash Kaul in August 2010.however, In the motion pictures business, Deepak Segal, who switched from Fox Television in late 2009, remains the chief operating officer.

    Sahara has churned out numerous hits in cooperation with boney kapoor which did wonders at the box office andonly few of its films couldn't do well. The blockbuster, Wanted, was a production of Sahara and Boney kapoor. In 2005, he sold the rights of all his movies to Sahara. Boney Kapoor shares a close relationship with Sahara and its owner Subrata Roy. In the last 10 years, Kapoor made over 10 films, out of which Wanted, No Entry and Company accomplished huge success and the rights of all have been purchased by sahara.

    For the very first time, a bollywood film producer is put at the helm of a broadcasting business. "It is an unusual move. Kapoor will have a tough task cut out for him and it remains to be seen what shape the company will take," says a media analyst.
