According to EPA estimates, Americans generate 13.1 million tons of textile waste annually, but only recycle about two million tons despite the fact textiles are 100% recyclable. The result is over 11 million tons of textile waste is sent to landfills annually costing taxpayers more than $375 million in waste disposal fees each year. Textile upcycling is a process through which discarded textiles are converted into new products of better quality rather than sent to a landfill.
