  • (1888PressRelease) August 31, 2012 - The BMW i8 Sypder, a hybrid concept car, is set to appear at the upcoming L.A. Auto Show. The manufacturer says the hybrid will achieve 70 mpg. A 170-hp electric motor drives the front wheels, while a 3-cylinder combustion engine powers the rear axle. Until this latest announcement, the i8 was slated to make its next showing at the New York Auto show, but BMW decided to speed up the emergence of the popular concept. When it goes on display in Los Angeles, the futuristic hybrid is expected to feature several updates. The BMW i8 can drive up to 20 miles in all-electric mode and accelerate to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Lexus will bring its concept hybrid LF-LC to the Australian Motor Show in October, which will mark the first time the vehicle has appeared in public since it debuted at the Detroit Motor Show in January. The all-wheel drive, 470-hp engine system will feature a silver exterior in Australia, unlike the bright red version in Detroit. While there has been no official word from Lexus about a production model, industry-watchers think the reappearance of the LF-LC at a major show hints at the carmaker's intentions.
