  • Reading, PA (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2011 - Peter DiMaio, Teacher for Octorara Area School District, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Peter DiMaio's commitment to excellence in Education.

DiMaio, who has been teaching since 1981, began his career at Octorara Area School District. He taught the fifth grade for eleven years before teaching Spanish.

Now teaching the Spanish language exclusively to seventh and eighth grade for the past twenty years, DiMaio prides his skills on instituting the concept of sustainability, or service-learning.

"I constantly instill in my students that a person that knows two languages is worth two people," DiMaio said. "I have always had a love of dispensing learning to others," he added. "Education and to be educated are import factors to me."

In addition to teaching at the grade school level, DiMaio has taught entry level Spanish courses at the university level and has also worked with a local university on a major cultural sustainability project, called Water for Waslala, Nicaragua. He also continues to travel the world, what he considers to be the ultimate classroom, in an effort to continue promoting its literature, research and development of the whole person.

DiMaio is a member of the National Education Association. He is certified in elementary education, speech and language impairment/linguistics and Spanish. He has written numerous articles in his field, had one of them published in the Vermont Community Works Journal, and was interviewed for a published article by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Tolerance Department for his connection to sustainability in education. He is also the recipient of a Citadel Heart of Learning Award. When Peter isn't busy working, he enjoys swimming, playing the piano, bird watching, reading literature and independent films.
