  • (1888PressRelease) November 10, 2010 - Melanie Nyambura Katsivo, Consultant of International Programs for The University of Western Ontario, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Katsivo, who holds a BA in Education and an MA in Sociology from the University of Nairobi, followed by a PhD in Educational Communication and Technology from Kenyatta University, began working in 1979 as a researcher for the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.

    Currently, Katsivo is a member of the research development team at the University, providing support for faculty in the conceptualization, development and coordination of international research and development/technical assistance initiatives. She acts as a liaison with domestic and foreign funding agencies, implementing agencies and organizations, and manages the development of applications, and in some cases, the implementation process for specific international funding programs. She also teaches an online course on grantsmanship to coordinators of clinical trials for the Faculty of continuing studies. "I have acquired very valuable experience along my life's professional journey," Katsivo said. "I feel that I could utilize this in ways that will create the biggest impact. I aspire to work at higher strategic levels, on visionary and bigger picture scenarios."

    In addition to the everyday role that she plays with the University, Katsivo also facilitates discussions on internationalization topics at provincial and national conferences, and has written many peer reviewed journals over the years. She is a steering committee member of the University and London area response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa, called Western Heads East, as well as the internationalization group that conceptualized the international page on the University's website. She is on the advisory committee of the Huron University College's CIDA/UPCD project on Building Civil Society Capacity for Poverty Reduction in Tanzania, and is also on the advisory and international partnerships committees of the newly launched Global Health Program. Katsivo is a member of the Canadian Public Health Association, Canadian Society for International Health, Canadian Policy Research Initiative, and International AIDS Economic Network. In her free time, Melanie volunteers as secretary for the local school council and donates to the Covenant House. She also enjoys walking, swimming, and dancing.
