  • Spartanburg, SC (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2010 - Marlvin M. Dawkins, Retired Computer Teacher for Union County High School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

Dawkins, who holds a Bachelor's of Business Administration from South Carolina State College, retired from teaching in 1998, after teaching high school computer keyboarding and working in administration for 33 years.

After beginning her teaching career in 1977 for the school, Dawkins relocated to New Haven, Connecticut just three years later. For the next fourteen years, she practiced secretarial, executive secretarial, bookkeeping, and other office skills after returning to Union County, South Carolina. In 1994, she was rehired at Union County Schools, where she taught keyboarding classes and related computer classes until her retirement.

During her time as a teacher, Dawkins prepared lesson plans, records of attendance and grades, controlled student behavior, attended parent-teacher conferences, and many other everyday teaching duties. She also did at-home teaching to those students that were sick or were unable to attend school for other reasons. "I was always inspired to be the best in whatever my endeavors were in life," she said, "and also through past teachers and their accomplishments."

She is a past member of the Union County Education Association, past president of the Union County Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International, and past speaker for the Ladies Day Seminar at The Church of Christ. She was named Secretary of the Year in 1988. Dawkins also volunteers her time at her local church, and donates to Rescue Team, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and to Haiti Relief.
