  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) August 19, 2011 - John Robert Shilling, Teacher at Clements High School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes John Robert Shilling's commitment to excellence in Education.

Shilling, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Botany and a Master's Degree in Education, both from Oregon State University, began teaching in 1973 at Southwestern Oregon Community College, teaching biology, botany and forestry. In 1977, he left teaching to start an electronics business for over seventeen years before returning to teaching in 1995.

In his current role, Shilling, who is classified as highly qualified in mathematics, science, health and agriculture in both Oregon and Texas, teaches health education courses to high school students to approximately three hundred sixty students per year. He also serves on several committees and also sponsors the Health Occupations Students of America Club.

Having been inspired by a long list of high school and college teachers, Shilling was encouraged to pursue a career in teaching. By the time he went to college, one of his professors asked him to go on sabbatical with him, which ended up with a job offer that lasted five years at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Now, with many teaching years under his belt, Shilling hopes to pursue his principal license online this fall and work toward his superintendent license a few years later, hoping to return to Oregon as a principal or superintendent.

"I have had many years of working with both students and adults of all ages, in business, education and by volunteering through the 4-H program," Shilling said. "Life experiences are the most important contribution to my success in teaching."

Shilling is a member of the American Federation of Teachers, is on the CHAMPS committee, the Campus Based Leadership Team and is a sponsor for the Health Occupations Students of America Club. In the past, he also sponsored a variety of other causes, including robotics and science. When John isn't busy working, he volunteers with various organizations, including those related to environmental and democratic political causes, and also enjoys hiking, fishing and landscaping.
