  • Jonesboro, AR (1888PressRelease) April 06, 2011 - James C. Holm, Sergeant First Class, Platoon Sergeant, Master Sergeant (MSG) for the Arkansas Army National Guard, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

Holm, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in General Agriculture from Arkansas State University in 1999, began his military career in 1993 after enrolling on the campus the university during his freshman year.

Following a long history of military in his family, including Holm's grandfather, a retired Master Sergeant and his aunt, a lieutenant colonel, his responsibilities as a sergeant are vast. He ensures that the platoon gets the proper training, that everyone gets sufficient sleep and rations and, most importantly, accountability. "Being a leader, you must always have accountability of all soldiers and know their whereabouts at all times," Holm explained. "You must also earn the respect of everyone in the group. Then, and only then, will the platoon have smooth cohesion and work as one team compared to a group of individuals."

Having joined the military on his own good will eighteen years ago, and with the encouragement of his entire family, Holm is inspired everyday to fight for his country so that civilians can continue with everyday life without getting in harm's way. "I am very proud and honored to be a part of this great nation and support our country," he said.

Aspiring to reach the same rank that his grandfather Carter J. Holm did during World War II, Holm is pushing to become a first sergeant and maybe even Sergeant Major. Once he retires, he hopes to possibly get a job working with combat veterans, a group of individuals that he says, "only other combat veterans can truly understand what they are going through upon their return from combat zones."

Holm is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout during his time with the Boy Scouts of America. He has won numerous awards, including an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, a NATO Afghanistan Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Awards, an Army Good Conduct Medal, three Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, a National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, two Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, an Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, an Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, a Combat Action Badge, Joint Unit Meritorious Award, and Unit Meritorious Award. Holm has completed four deployments, three of which were in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has recently qualified as an expert with his combat rifle (M-4) and pistol (M-9). In his free time, James volunteers with the American Red Cross, and enjoys playing golf, riding bicycles and motorcycle riding.
