Focusing his energy on two major projects funded by the Department of Energy, Pfaffmann said, "The US must revitalize and strengthen its global leadership in durable goods manufacturing, the only real effective way for increased US wealth. We must move to use more effective disruptive technological innovations, driven by the high-density, computational simulation tools that are now available."

Pfaffmann further noted that these simulation tools will define an effective and efficient path to resolve the diverse issues that face the United States today.

As an elected fellow of the American Society for Materials, Pfaffmann is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and has served on the National Research Council's review committee of DOE ITP Report.
