Bolger, Culinary Educator for Renaissance Academy has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Deborah A. Bolger's commitment to excellence in Education.

    Bolger, who holds a BS in Institution and Restaurant Management and Dietetics from the University of Nebraska and an MS in Nutrition Education and Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University, began working in food service when she was in high school. She also received her registered dietitian certification in 1997 after completing her internship from BroMenn Hospital in Illinois.

    After completing her master's degree, Bolger began working for ARAMARK Corporation in the corrections division where she was employed as an account director for six years. Since 2004, she has been employed with the Virginia Beach Public School system where she teaches commercial foods classes to high school students.

    "My current job goal is to provide skills for student success in the food service industry along with their ability for self sufficiency," Bolger explained.

    Bolger is also an adjunct professor at Norfolk State University, teaching food service management classes via distance learning to the dietetics students attending the college.

    Currently pursuing her PhD in Career and Technical Education from Old Dominion University Bolger aspires to teach in a higher education institution. She hopes to someday create a distance learning program for food service management students. Her dissertation topic will help identify programs providing initial teacher licensure classes that are offered via distance learning to aid in the shortage of Family and Consumer Science teachers.

    Bolger is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Association of Career Technical Education, American Association of Family Consumer Sciences, Society for Nutrition Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education Association, Golden Key International Honor Society, Iota Lambda Sigma, Kappa Omicron Nu and the National Education Association. She is the department chair for Family and Consumer Sciences and Career and Technical Education for the Renaissance Academy, is a reviewer for the Society of Nutrition Education e-learning website, and was a textbook reviewer for Adventures in Food and Nutrition by Bredbenner. She's won numerous awards, including Renaissance Academy Teacher of the Year Award, Virginia Beach Top Five Citywide Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011, Outstanding Vocational Teacher Award, Outstanding Service Open House Award, three CAFÉ scholarships, a Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board Scholarship, and a Virginia Beach Education Foundation Grant. In her free time, Deborah enjoys sewing, fishing, and traveling.
