  • Gainesville, GA (1888PressRelease) February 19, 2011 - Brenda Brown, Nursing Instructor for Brenau University, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Brenda Brown's commitment to excellence in the field of Education and Healthcare.

Brown, who holds Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees in Nursing from North Georgia College, followed by a Master's Degree in Nursing from Regis University, began working in her field in 1991 for Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Since then, she has worked in several facilities and held various positions in nursing, including cardiac critical care, adult medical/surgical, psychiatric, home health and pediatric home care.

Working as an instructor for the college, Brown coordinates two major courses for the junior level students, developing the syllabi and class schedules, creating assessment tools to evaluate student achievement, and managing adjunct faculty. She also directly teaches students in these courses in both the classroom and clinical settings. Further responsibilities include being a member of the undergraduate committee that meets monthly to evaluate course and program content and outcomes, discuss issues, and recommend changes to improve the undergraduate nursing program. "Nursing is both an art and a science," Brown explained. "My education and years of clinical practice have enabled me to become proficient in managing the care of clients."

Knowing at a very early age that nursing was the field Brown wanted to pursue, she later discovered a natural knack for teaching. Currently, she is applying for admission to Kennesaw State University for her doctorate in nursing science in order to further her teaching career and advance the nursing program at Brenau. She also hopes some day to take nursing education to the women of Afghanistan.

Brown holds a post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education from Regis University and is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Georgia Nurses' Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International. She holds the office of treasurer for Nu Gamma, the Brenau Chapter of STTI. Additionally, she is certified by the American Heart Association as an instructor of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and continues to teach those courses at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Married to Dr. Keith Brown, a professor at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's Georgia campus, Brenda enjoys hiking, camping and music in her free time.
