Leathwood, Director of Instruction for Kootenay Lake School District, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Andrew C. Leathwood's commitment to excellence in Education.

    Leathwood, who holds a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Gonzaga University, began his career in teaching in 1979 as a physical education, mathematics, and science instructor in Kaslo, British Columbia. He worked a variety of positions throughout the course of his twenty-seven year tenure, including classroom teacher, counselor, department head, and vice-principal, and in 2006, transferred to Mt. Sentinel Secondary as principal.

    In 2009, Leathwood accepted a position as Director of Student Learning for Kootenay Lake School District. He is responsible for the education program within the district working with school administration and other educators on making sure the conditions for learning are optimum in each school. He helps with the implementation of new curriculum, organizes and manages the staff development programs in the district, and supervises academics and specialty programs. He also works with schools to develop their school plan to enhance learning, and develops the District Achievement Contract, which sets the learning goals for the district. "I firmly believe that education at all levels is based on relationships," Leathwood explained. "My background as a coach and counselor has enabled me to build and maintain very solid and respectful relationships with students, parents, and other professionals."

    Growing up in a family that believed in the power of public education and shaping the future of the country with good academics, Leathwood knows that educators and future educators have an incredible impact of the lives of students. "I have loved every minute of my career as an educator," he said. "I've worked with a lot of schools to improve the learning environment."

    Leathwood is a member of Rotary International, Association of Supervision and Curriculum, National Staff Development Council, and The College of Teachers. In his free time, Andrew volunteers for Rotary, numerous recreational boards, and by coaching youth sports. He also enjoys playing squash, softball, and golf.
