  • Baltimore, MD (1888PressRelease) December 10, 2013 - This holiday season, the students of The Forbush Therapeutic Preschool at Towson have something extra to look forward to beyond the winter season's usual celebrations. On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 12:30 p.m., more than 20 students with special needs, ages five to nine years, will be greeted by Marines with presents from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

After a successful first visit by the Marines of Toys for Tots in December 2012, teachers, families and students alike are enthusiastically awaiting their return just in time for this holiday season. The day will bring with it a warm, awe-inspiring atmosphere, as preschoolers have the opportunity to engage with Baltimore Marines to ask questions, take photos and receive holiday gifts donated by the community.

"The students were overjoyed last year to meet real-life Marines," said Diann Butler, principal of The Forbush Therapeutic Preschool at Towson. "Their eyes glowed and they had big smiles on their faces as their superheroes came into the classroom. Even non-verbal students couldn't take their eyes off the Marines and their uniforms."

The therapeutic preschool program provides special education and programming to children with autism, pervasive developmental disorder, developmental delays, severe behavioral and emotional problems, multiple learning problems and other related disorders. These students are given the opportunity to learn in intimate classroom settings that strive to meet their personal needs through special programming and individualized daily schedules.

The preschool assists families in need from its student body throughout the year. The Toys for Tots program is one way the school is helping some of its lower-income families this holiday season - and welcomes the U.S. Marine Corps to help inspire holiday cheer within its doors.
