  • Trenton-Ewing, NJ (1888PressRelease) April 14, 2011 - Barbara K. Schoor, vice president of Community Investment Strategies (CIS), Inc., was recently presented with the Affordable Housing Award at the New Jersey Builders Association (NJBA) Annual Industry Awards Luncheon. The Interlaken, N.J., resident, who was among 22 honorees celebrated at the Atlantic City Convention Center, was recognized for her outstanding professional contributions to New Jersey's housing and building industry.

In her role at CIS, Schoor manages every facet of the company's multi-family development projects, including acquisition, predevelopment and financing. During her tenure, she has served as project manager for more than 1,000 apartment units, from inception to final build-out and management. Her background also includes architecture, land acquisition, finance, site and subdivision planning, and regulatory approvals.

"For more than 10 years, I have been part of CIS' vision to build more than 'bricks and mortar' housing solutions. We have been extremely successful in creating affordable multi-family rental and ownership options that add tremendous value to the communities in which all of our projects are located," said Schoor. "We are very proud of our accomplishments and look forward to delivering several new CIS projects to market this year."

These projects include Water's Edge Crescent and Water's Edge in Elizabeth, which features 71 affordable rental units and 10 ownership units, respectively; Whitney Crescent in Glassboro, featuring 80 affordable rental units; and 112 affordable rental units at Windsor Crescent in Jackson.

"All of us at CIS congratulate Barbara on this latest achievement and her unwavering commitment to help communities prosper and create the benchmarks to which other market-rate and affordable housing communities are held," said Christiana Foglio, CIS' founder and CEO.

Based in Lawrenceville, N.J., CIS is a fully integrated commercial real estate organization specializing in multi-family housing, including 55+, senior housing and mixed-use redevelopments. The for-profit company's in-house development, construction and management services are an extension of CIS' commitment to reposition unproductive property and land parcels in order to revitalize communities for area residents, children, municipalities and local businesses.

Since its founding in 1994, CIS has developed a broad spectrum of multi-family properties, ranging from multiplex apartments and townhomes to mid- and hi-rise complexes, valued in excess of $350 million. The company's diverse portfolio includes more than 2,000 apartment-rental units located in the northeast, with a high concentration in New Jersey.

A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned a bachelor of science in architecture, Schoor is a director of NJBA, and serves on the Environmental Committee; life director of the Shore Builders Association of Central New Jersey; and a member of the New Jersey Senior Housing Council as well as the National Multifamily Council. She also is a member of Industrial and Commercial Real Estate Women, Women in Housing Finance and the International Code Council and serves as a director of Affordable Housing Professionals of New Jersey.

Established as a woman-owned business, CIS and its professionals are widely acknowledged for developing the most appropriate low-to-moderate income housing options. CIS is a member of several national, regional and local industry groups, including the National Association of Home Builders, Institute of Real Estate Management, New Jersey Apartment Association and New Jersey Builders Association.
