  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) September 15, 2011 - La Caņada Presbyterian Church is excited to partner with the Crescenta-Caņada YMCA and Fusion Academy & Learning Center Pasadena to host author Dan Webster and his KidUnique workshop. The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with dinner provided by a La Caņada favorite, Los Gringos Locos. The workshop begins at 7:00 PM. Following the workshop, Webster will be available to sign books. Parents, teachers and mentors of kids from 0-18 are encouraged to attend. Childcare is available, with a special KidUnique experience for infants through 6th grade.

In his book, KidUnique, Webster proposes that often, parents and kids get lost amidst the many choices and pressures presented to kids in the stages from childhood to adulthood. In response, Webster's workshop helps parents to take a different approach in observing their child or teenager in order to better help them identify and develop their unique gifts.

"Dan Webster's deep wisdom, authenticity and great teaching has changed me to be a better dad and leader. If you are a parent or lead students, I cannot encourage you enough to come and learn from his observations and experiences!" said Jim Staniels, Director of LCPC Junior High Ministry.

During the workshop, Webster skillfully guides parents from a passive position into an active role in a kid's life through his "four-window model" of observation, exploration, affirmation, and revelation. Webster states, "Kids have an innate need for adults who cheer for them, see the best in them, and support them through word and deed." He adds, "In my workshop, I present parents with a simple system for collecting insights that a kid can carry into the future."

"Fusion Academy & Learning Center was founded with the understanding that every child learns in a unique manner and that learning is most effective when customized to each student's interests," said Francisco Ayala, Fusion Academy Pasadena's head of school. "Given that, we think there is great value in introducing our parents to the concepts in KidUnique and thank LCPC for presenting this workshop opportunity to our school community."

Webster is an author, teacher, communicator, mentor, and founder of Authentic Leadership, Inc. With over thirty years of experience, he has work with corporations and non-profit organizations such as Chick-fil-A, US Cellular, the YMCA, Bands of America and the Arizona and Indiana public school systems.

The KidUnique workshop will be held in the Family Life Building of La Caņada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd., La Caņada, CA 91011, Friday, September 23 from 6:00-9:00 PM. Workshop Admission is $5/person; dinner is $10/adult, $5/child with a $30 cap per family; and childcare is $5/family.
