  • Ventura, CA (1888PressRelease) March 08, 2012 - ASPCA and its local partner, Bark Avenue Foundation, announce the combined participation of 16 SoCal shelters in ASPCA's nationwide Mega Match-A-Thon, March 30 through April 1, 11A-5P each day. Working together, the shelters will try to double the number of adoptions they made during the same weekend in 2011.

"With the help of ASPCA and our 16 shelter partners, the Mega Match-A-Thon will be the biggest-ever adoption event in Southern California. There'll be more than 5,000 beautiful dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and bunnies hoping to find new homes," says Melanie Pozez, Founder and Executive Director of Bark Avenue Foundation.

Participating shelters: LA City Animal Services (East Valley, Harbor, North Central, South LA, West LA, West Valley; La County Animal Services (Agoura, Baldwin Park, Carson, Castaic, Downey, Lancaster); and other County and Public Shelters (City of Irvine Animal Care, Kern County Animal Control, SEACCA, Ventura County Animal Services).

Special features include: Big discounts on adoption fees; all animals already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped; free collars and leashes; free "The Pet Protector" ID tags; and free samples of John Paul Pet products. Bilingual staff and volunteers will see that everyone feels welcome and can go home with a wonderful new member of the family.

Two press conferences will be held with special-guest speakers: March 29 at Kern County Animal Control in Bakersfield, and March 30 at East Valley in Van Nuys.

California spends approximately $300 million a year housing and killing unwanted companion animals. Bark Avenue Foundation and ASPCA are committed to helping dramatically lower that number. Since its inception in 2004, Bark Avenue Foundation has played a prominent role in reducing the abandoned-animal population in Southern California through innovative adoption, spay/neuter, and humane-education programs.
