  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 29, 2011 - ClassLink - the future of instructional technology - delivering 24/7 access to K-12 learning tools - is pleased to announce the recipient of their 8th Annual ClassLink College Scholarship Program. The program is open to high school seniors at participating ClassLink schools who are interested in furthering their education at a two or four-year college. This year's winner is Megan Heaning from Arthur L. Johnson High School in New Jersey's Clark Public School District.

Seniors from ClassLink high schools across the country were asked to describe one skill or competency learned during their 13 years in school that they felt was invaluable. Numerous entries were received, and ClassLink recognizes and congratulates all of the nominees on their achievements. The scholarship program helps deserving young people achieve their goals in college; the $1000 scholarship may be applied to tuition, fees, books, room and board, or any other education expense.

Megan Heaning, a four year honors student, plans to attend Loyola University in Maryland and major in English with the goal of becoming a publisher. Her English teacher reports that Megan is "delightfully competent and unpretentious in the many roles that she plays in our school community; she has contributed outstandingly to a true learning environment." Her essay was about her editorial in the school newspaper of which she is the Editor-in Chief. She wrote about the dangers of underage drinking and how it is a horrible decision with potentially devastating repercussions. Her essay included how she managed the strong reactions the school newspaper article elicited around school. It taught her to stand up for what she believes no matter what the reaction. Megan's references mirror that she is a young woman of conviction, intelligence and vision.

"Our annual scholarship essay contest is just one example of how ClassLink looks to the future," said CEO Berj Akian. "We are confident that Megan and all the previous ClassLink scholarship winners will continue their successes as they start the next chapter of their lifelong education. Congratulations to Megan and the teachers who successfully prepared her for the challenges ahead."

The ClassLink College Scholarship is an essay competition and recognizes students who have demonstrated academic success while maintaining a well-rounded life outside of their scholarly pursuits. Since its inception in 2004, the scholarship program rewards deserving students in the ClassLink network of schools.
