67 Students Complete Uni.Asia Life Assurance's (UAL) Financial Academy Program

  • (1888PressRelease) December 06, 2011 - Ampang - 67 primary and secondary students from 8 schools around the Klang Valley were shortlisted to attend Uni.Asia Life Assurance's 2011 UAL Financial Academy Camp in COPE Adventure, Ampang from 19 to 21 November 2011. The program was conducted in collaboration with MoneyTree, a company that specializes in educating kids about Financial literacy and Developing Good Money habits.

    The participating students consist of the Top 9 students from each school who have been selected to complete the MoneyTree Financial Literacy Program.

    Students who qualified for this camp were given the opportunity to complete MoneyTree's MoneyWise Junior and Apprentice program under the sponsorship of Uni.Asia Life Assurance (UAL). Throughout the camp, students were taught what inflation is, interest rates and how to calculate returns, goal setting, the importance of planning for retirement, philanthropy and social entrepreneurship.

    Jacky Chan, Uni.Asia Life's Chief Officer of Agency Business and Operations said, "The UAL Financial Academy Camp is part of Uni.Asia Life's overall involvement in corporate responsibility initiatives under the Community dimension. The program engaged a hands-on approach in setting the right mindset, habits, concepts and applications of managing money. In addition to these, outdoor activities that encourage team building were also included in the program."

    The participants of the UAL Financial Academy Camp came from the Kelab Kewangan Pelajar Sekolah (KKPS) of Uni.Asia Life's eight adopted schools and they are SRK Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, SJK (C) Chi Man and SJK (T) Thamboosamy Pillai in Sentul, SJK (C) Lai Chee and SRK Sri Dhandayutapani in Jalan Ipoh, SMP Methodist, Kuala Lumpur, SMK Pantai Sepang Putra, Sg. Pelek, Sepang and SMK Gedangsa, Kg. Gedangsa, Kuala Kubu Bharu.

    All 72 participants who attended the camp were given the opportunity to take the accreditation exam offered by Open University Malaysia acknowledging that they have completed the Financial Education program. At the end of the program, students used the MoneyTree currency they've earned during the camp to bid for prizes such netbooks, MP4s and meal vouchers.

    Students were also entreated to UAL's "multi-copter" launch, an exciting cheerleading performance, a sumptuous BBQ dinner and delicious cupcakes for World Children's Day. Awards were given out to the best teacher, best male and female student from both the primary and secondary level.

    The MoneyTree Program educates children from ages 6 -17 years old on financial literacy through fun activities in class, group dynamics, role playing, simulations and other interactive tools.
