  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) January 10, 2011 - The Woodshed Picture Framing and Art Gallery in Franklin, Massachusetts will present original fine art paintings by Franklin artist Lazario (Richard Lazario Guardabascio), January 11 through February 6, 2011. This is the first time Lazario has been featured in a solo exhibition. The public is invited to an opening reception for the artist on Saturday, January 15, from 3PM to 5PM.

Lazario is a comparative newcomer to the art scene. Although he always had an interest in arts and crafts, he did not start painting until after retiring from his career as an engineer. For the past few years he has concentrated in watercolor painting, studying with Norfolk artist and teacher Gail Eckberg.

Lazario works with energy and an independent spirit. His compositions are often primitive and whimsical. He jokingly refers to himself as Franklin's "Grandma Moses."

Although his work is outside the norm of realistic academic art, he has found acceptance as a member of the Franklin Art Association. He also has the distinction of having a painting included in the Rhode Island Watercolor Society (RIWS) Natonal Juried open show.

The Woodshed Gallery is presenting Lazario's work as the eighth exhibition in an ongoing series. The program is designed to present the community with the opportunity to view accomplished art being created by their neighbors. The series also helps artists take control of their presentations and advance their careers.

The Woodshed Picture Framing and Art Gallery was founded by professional artist Angelina Wood in 1968, and continues to be a family-run business. They specialize in conservation picture framing and the exhibition of original fine art. The Woodshed Gallery also shows a selection of hand-crafted jewelry and continues to be a family-run business.

The Woodshed Gallery is located at 1243 Pond Street, Franklin, MA, near the Medway Line. Gallery hours are Tuesdays thru Fridays, 10AM-5PM, Saturdays 10AM-3PM.

Examples of Lazario's paintings and directions to the gallery can be found on The Woodshed Gallery's web site. Go to http://www.WoodshedGallery.com
