  • (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2012 - The search to honour some of the UK's most inspirational women is underway as the Women of the Year Awards prepares to mark its 30th anniversary with the biggest event in the ceremony's history.

Now entering its fourth decade celebrating successful and inspirational women, the 2012 Women of the Year Luncheon and Awards will recognise the country's most admired businesswomen at an October ceremony tipped to be its most sensational yet. Presented by well-known broadcaster Arti Halai, and with famed designer and entrepreneur Karen Millen heading up a line-up of the country's most in demand female entrepreneurs, entertainers and public speakers set to be announced over the coming months, organisers expect this year's event to set a new bar for one of the most glamorous British events to take place outside London.

"For 30 years this event has celebrated the achievements of women in business and society and with every year it gets just a little bit bigger and more exciting. This time round will be no different, with a host of big name attendees led by the inspirational Karen Millen and some amazing entertainment lining up in Birmingham to recognise some of the most impressive women working in Britain today," said awards chair Judy Groves.

"These are the leading awards for businesswomen outside London and I am never failed to be impressed by the standard of women who enter. We encourage nominations from a wide range of sectors and it is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of women who are continuing to set new benchmarks in leadership and excellence within their organisations and beyond."

Attendees at the annual awards will be rubbing shoulders with some big names. The 2011 award winner Julie White - Managing Director of D-Drill - has been invited along with an impressive roll call of previous award recipients that includes Karren Brady, star of The Apprentice and vice-chairman at West Ham United, Bravissimo founder and chief executive Sarah Tremellen and Dragon's Den star Hillary Devey, Chief Executive and Founder of Pall-Ex.

Entertainment at the event has gained a similar reputation over the years. With high profile women like Kirsty Allsopp and Ruby Wax serving as inspirational keynote speakers at previous ceremonies, one of the UK's leading choreographers has been amongst the first to sign up for the 2012 show, promising a ballroom spectacular to light up the luncheon.

The event's organisers are calling upon companies, organisations and members of the public to nominate businesswomen who have shown exceptional ability and achievement for the 2012 Women of the Year Luncheon and Awards, which will be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Friday, October 5th 2012.

This year's supported charities are Marie Curie, Alzheimer's Research and Vitalise, an organisation that provides short breaks for disabled people. Past events have raised nearly of £500,000 for worthy causes.

Groves added: "These awards are a great way of raising each company's and individual's regional and national profile. They also provide the opportunity to network with some of the most successful businesswomen in Britain at an event that has almost become as famous for its fun aspects as it has for the serious business of recognising the UK's best and brightest."
