  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) January 25, 2018 - It is paramount that this effort continues and expands, especially to serve and advocate for the needs of the most marginalized and impoverished women of the world. This is why in its 25th anniversary, Women for Women International (WfWI) is launching Match Her Courage.

A campaign to raise $75 million for programs impacting women survivors of war, Match Her Courage will help WfWI reach more women, increase our impact, and ensure that the most marginalized and impoverished women in the world have a chance to reach their full potential.

"From genocide in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to rape in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the women we serve have faced some of the worst atrocities one could imagine, but they refuse to give up. This campaign is our way of honor that courage," WfWI CEO Laurie Adams said about Match Her Campaign.

Since 1993, WfWI has served nearly 475,000 women survivors of war in Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kosovo, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Sudan. Through WfWI's comprehensive 12-month program, women learn about their rights and health, and gain key life, vocational, and business skills to access livelihoods and break free from trauma and poverty.

Match Her Courage will enable WfWI to serve 50,000 more women in the countries where the organization currently works as well as expand to new areas. Through the campaign, WfWI will also establish a Conflict Response Fund to support marginalized women in crisis-affected regions and increase efforts to sustain peace after violent conflict in countries like Kosovo and Rwanda.

"Conflict may be rising around the world; however, we hold the key to progress and peace in our hands: women's empowerment. The time to invest in this solution is now. I am proud that Women for Women International has the chance to lead the way."
